the guitar hero games were played on plastic guitars with plastic buttons, and pushing a plastic strum switch while holding down a color coded button the the indications on screen.

there are some games that came out after it that used real guitars though, 2 i know of were bandfuse and rocksmith.

100% no it doesnt translate into guitar playing skills at all. Your finger dexterity might improve over someone that does nothing but thats the full extent of benefits.
